The Chairperson of the House Committee on Human Rights, Manila City Congressman Benny Abante, voiced support for the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) in its decision to suspend the television show "It's Showtime" for 12 airing days.

He emphasized that the suspension is justified as it conveys a message to television show producers and artists, reminding them to be mindful of the content's appropriateness for young viewers.

Mr. Abante highlighted the role of the MTRCB in safeguarding Filipino audiences from content on airwaves and shielding children from obscenity. He commended the board's actions, asserting that they were the right course of action.

The legislator expressed concern over the prevalence of material in Filipino television and online media. He remarked that society may have become desensitized to vulgarity due to its pervasive nature. He urged the government to intervene and promote values to protect families.

Mr. Abante stressed the importance of the "Bagong Pilipinas" initiative, launched by the current administration in July. He argued that this initiative should incorporate efforts to reinforce traditional Filipino family values, emphasizing that faith and family values are the cornerstones of a nation. He cautioned against allowing even minor doses of immorality to infiltrate society, as it could lead to tolerance for larger-scale immorality.
