Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez presented a resolution to Speaker Kim Jin-Pyo of the National Assembly of South Korea, expressing support and solidarity with the Republic of South Korea on the 70th anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement.
Romualdez headed the welcoming party for Speaker Jin-Pyo's delegation, who attended the presentation of Resolution No. 93 at the Women's Legislators Lounge in the South Wing Annex, Batasan Hills, Quezon City.
During the event, Romualdez conveyed his condolences and sympathy to the South Korean leaders for the loss of lives and damage caused by floods in their country.
"I am pleased that with the pandemic behind us, our parliamentary exchanges have once again become active. It is my hope that the relationship between our two countries will continue to grow and become even stronger over the coming years. Be assured that the House of Representatives of the 19th Congress will support the elevation of PH-ROK relations to a strategic partnership,” Romualdez said.
Last month, Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez, along with other lawmakers, visited Jeju Island, South Korea, for the ASEAN-Korea Leaders Forum on the occasion of the Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity.
She appreciated the active exchanges between the two countries and advocated for a stronger relationship, particularly in economic, defense, and infrastructure development cooperation.
Resolution No. 93 was adopted by the House of Representatives and introduced by Speaker Romualdez, Rep. Yedda Marie K. Romualdez, Senior Deputy Speaker Aurelio "Dong" D. Gonzales, Majority Leader Manuel Jose "Mannix" M. Dalipe, Senior Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander A. Marcos, Minority Leader Marcelino C. Libanan, and Tingog Party-list Rep Jude A. Acidre.
The resolution recognizes the historical bond between the Philippines and South Korea, which dates back to 1949 when the Philippines recognized the Republic of Korea as a sovereign state, becoming the first ASEAN country to establish relations with the new nation and the first Asian country to respond to the United Nations' call to aid South Korea during the communist invasion.
