The House of Representatives fell victim to a cyberattack, adding to the growing list of government agencies that have recently experienced such breaches.
Other entities on various news reports include the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth), the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), and the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) , Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Internal Revenue, and the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
In an official statement by House Secretary General Reginald Velasco, he said that their official website had experienced an unauthorized access breach.
The incident, which is currently under investigation, has prompted the institution to take immediate steps to address the issue and bolster their digital security measures.
“The House of Representatives is actively collaborating with key authorities such as the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC), and relevant law enforcement agencies to delve into the unauthorized access incident,” he said.
As the investigation proceeds, the House of Representatives is dedicated to ensuring the security and integrity of their digital platforms.
They have already initiated measures to rectify the situation and prevent future occurrences of this nature.
He added that the website's restoration is a top priority for the institution, and while this process is underway, they kindly request patience and understanding from the public.
In light of the incident, the House of Representatives also issued a precautionary advisory to the public.
They urge citizens to be cautious of any suspicious emails or communications that claim to be from the House of Representatives. This step is taken to prevent potential phishing attempts or misinformation campaigns related to the breach.
