Speaker Romualdez and Tingog Party-list Provide P33 Million in Assistance to Albay Amid Mayon Volcano Eruption

In response to the ongoing eruption of Mayon Volcano, Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez and Tingog Party-list have taken swift action to extend aid to the province of Albay, providing a total of P33 million worth of assistance in cash and in kind. The eruption has necessitated the evacuation of residents residing in the permanent danger zone.

On Sunday, Speaker Romualdez, along with Tingog Party-list Representatives Yedda Marie K. Romualdez and Jude Acidre, announced the allocation of P1 million worth of assistance to each of the three districts of Albay. The affected areas include the 1st District, represented by Edcel Lagman; the 2nd District, represented by Joey Salceda; and the 3rd District, represented by Fernando Cabredo. The assistance from the Speaker's office will be channeled through the respective district offices.

Speaking on behalf of the House, Romualdez expressed solidarity with the people of Albay during this challenging time. He stated, "Mayon Volcano's eruption is something that we cannot stop, but so is showing malasakit to our countrymen when difficulties arise. Together, we will ride out this calamity." Romualdez represents Leyte's 1st District.

The P1 million assistance allocated to each district is divided into P500,000 in cash and P500,000 worth of relief packs from Speaker Romualdez's personal disaster response fund. In the early hours of Sunday, hundreds of volunteers gathered at PureGold-Embarkadero in Legazpi, Albay to repack and prepare relief goods for the displaced families. A total of 1,420 relief packs were readied for distribution in each district.

Additionally, the Speaker's office has collaborated with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) under Secretary Rex Gatchalian. Through the agency's Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program, P10 million worth of assistance will be released to each district.

"We expect this assistance from the DSWD, along with our humble contribution, to ease the worries that our kababayans in Albay may have for the immediate future. Nakahanda po kaming tumugon sa mga pangangailangan ninyo, kahit na magtagal ang kalamidad na ito," Speaker Romualdez affirmed.

According to the Speaker, the P500,000 cash assistance for each of the three districts will be handed over on Monday, followed by the distribution of relief packs in the near future. The coordinated efforts between Speaker Romualdez, Tingog Party-list, and the DSWD aim to provide timely and substantial support to the affected communities in Albay during this difficult period.
