The latest National Social Weather Survey (SWS), conducted from September 28 to October 1, 2023, revealed that 9.8% of Filipino families experienced involuntary hunger, defined as being hungry and having nothing to eat, at least once in the past three months.

This figure represents a decrease from the 10.4% recorded in June 2023 and is consistent with the 9.8% reported in March 2023.

The Third Quarter 2023 Social Weather Survey involved face-to-face interviews with 1,200 adults (18 years old and above) nationwide.

The sampling distribution included 300 respondents each from Metro Manila, Balance Luzon (Luzon outside Metro Manila), the Visayas, and Mindanao.

Face-to-face interviews, the standard method for Social Weather Stations, resumed normal field operations in November 2020 after being temporarily replaced by mobile phone interviews early in the pandemic due to movement restrictions.

The survey's margin of error is ±2.8% for national percentages and ±5.7% for estimates in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao.

The area estimates were weighted using the Philippine Statistics Authority's medium-population projections for 2023 to derive national estimates.
