The Inter-Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT) has reported a significant reduction in the number of private vehicles using the Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) busway following its intensified crackdown against violators.

During a press briefing, I-ACT Chief Charlie Del Rosario revealed that the daily average of apprehended motorists by I-ACT enforcers has dropped from around 400 to approximately 100 in recent days.

Del Rosario stated, "They can be fined up to PHP1,000. And these apprehended individuals are reported to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) where they can settle their fine."

In addition to receiving fines, violators also accumulate "points" in the LTO's system, which can affect their ability to obtain a 10-year driver's license upon renewal.

Those who accumulate 40 points may even have their license suspended, emphasizing the seriousness of the violations.

Del Rosario emphasized that even during periods of light traffic, many motorists are still apprehended on EDSA's private lanes. He made it clear that only government emergency vehicles are permitted to utilize these lanes. To enforce traffic regulations, various government units including the LTO, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), local government units, and the Philippine National Police are working in conjunction with the I-ACT.
The I-ACT chief called upon the motoring public to adhere to traffic laws and stressed the importance of cooperation to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of all road users. With ongoing efforts and strict enforcement, the I-ACT aims to maintain order on EDSA and encourage responsible driving practices across the metropolitan area.
