Inaugural MMFF Summer Awardees Named

The first-ever Summer Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) concluded with a star-studded awards night held at a glamorous venue in Metro Manila, Philippines. The festival, which was a spin-off of the highly acclaimed Metro Manila Film Festival held annually in December, showcased a diverse range of films that captivated audiences and critics alike.

One of the highlights of the event was the announcement of the winners for various categories, with "About Us But Not About Us" taking home the coveted Best Picture award. The film, directed by Jun Robles Lana, also bagged the Best Director award for Lana, who was praised for his exceptional storytelling and unique vision.

Elijah Canlas, who portrayed a remarkable performance in "About Us But Not About Us", was awarded the Jury Prize, earning accolades for his outstanding acting skills. Romnick Sarmenta also received recognition for his exceptional performance in the same film, winning the Best Actor award.

"Love You Long Time" was another big winner of the night, earning the 2nd Best Picture award and also winning the Best Float award. The film was lauded for its heartwarming story and captivating performances.

The 3rd Best Picture award went to "Here Comes the Groom", a film that also earned praise for its ensemble cast, winning the 2nd Jury Prize for the performances of its actors. Keempee de Leon was awarded Best Supporting Actor for his outstanding portrayal in "Here Comes the Groom", while "Kalad Karen" Jervi Li won Best Supporting Actress for her impressive performance in the same film.

The talents behind the scenes were also recognized at the MMFF, with Marxie Maolen Fadul winning Best Production Design, Neil Daza winning Best Cinematography, Lawrence Ang winning Best Editing, and Teresa Barrozo winning Best Musical Score, all for their work in "About Us But Not About Us". The film also won Best Screenplay, written by Jun Robles Lana, and Best Sound, by Armand de Guzman.

The Best Original Theme Song award was given to "Paralaya" from the film "Apag", and Gladys Reyes won Best Actress for her outstanding performance in "Apag", showcasing her remarkable talent.

The first-ever Summer Metro Manila Film Festival was indeed a night to remember, as it celebrated the creativity, talent, and diversity of Filipino cinema. The event was a showcase of outstanding films and remarkable performances, leaving audiences excited for what the future holds for the film industry. With its successful debut, the Summer MMFF is set to become an annual celebration of Filipino cinema and a platform for local filmmakers to showcase their exceptional work.
