In a recent interview on the Julius and TinTin Babao OnePH YouTube show, Christopher Carpila, the uploader of the now-viral Lea Salonga dressing-room video, expressed his feelings and shared the events that led up to the video being posted online. Carpila revealed that he does not regret sharing the video and provided insight into how he ended up in Lea Salonga's dressing room after the show.
When asked about how he gained access to the dressing room, Carpila explained, "After the show, of course, people started coming out. As Filipinos, we want to have mementos, so we wanted to take a picture. We asked a personnel of the venue where we could see Ms. Lea, and they instructed us to go to the exit door where the artists come out to sign autographs or head home. So we went there, outside the theater. A black American approached us, and we asked him where Ms. Lea was. He told us that she was inside, so I said we wanted to see her. He then asked for our names and went inside. After a while, he returned to confirm our names, and then he went back inside. We didn't know if he did anything or got confirmation, but he came back and said, 'You can go inside now.' We were super happy, and a woman even assisted us to find Ms. Lea."
Carpila and his companions were avid Lea Salonga fans, and they were eagerly waiting for their turn to meet her. When the moment finally arrived, they were prepared with their cameras ready to capture the special encounter. However, Carpila noted that Ms. Salonga seemed tired or preoccupied during their brief interaction.
Carpila also clarified the caption he used on his video post, mentioning that there was a "meet and greet" opportunity with fans outside the dressing room. He recounted that after the show, they tried to approach Ms. Salonga at the theater's dance floor but were turned away by the security.
Regarding his decision to upload the video, Carpila asserted that he had no intention of causing harm or tarnishing Ms. Salonga's image. He explained that he was only human, and like many others, sometimes people post out of disappointment or frustration without fully considering the consequences. Carpila expressed his respect for Ms. Salonga and all those who have expressed their opinions on the matter, and he chooses not to engage in any negativity.
Finally, when asked if he regretted sharing the video, Carpila replied, "I respect everyone. I don't regret posting it because it eased my heart. I let out my disappointment and sadness. Now, whatever I receive, I think I respect them because I know that they also have their reasons. I just try to understand and not dwell on it."
Carpila concluded that he believes he did not cross any boundaries, as the video itself shows that he did not approach Ms. Salonga too closely.
