In a statement released today, basketball standout Jacob Cortez revealed that he has decided to part ways with San Beda University and is set to take on a new challenge by competing in the upcoming UAAP season.

Cortez, who played a pivotal role in bringing glory to San Beda, expressed the difficulty of his decision, emphasizing his commitment to personal growth and development. "Challenging, improving, and growing is always my goal, and so I have decided that to achieve this, I need to get out of my comfort zone," Cortez stated.

The announcement marks the end of an era for Cortez at San Beda, where he made significant contributions from his rookie year, playing an instrumental role in securing a championship for the university. Reflecting on his time with the Red Lions, Cortez acknowledged the unforgettable experiences and the support of the San Beda community.

"The most unforgettable part of the past couple of years has been all of you. Along the journey, I’ve truly met people who I can call family now," Cortez expressed his gratitude to teammates, coaches, managers, basketball staff, classmates, teachers, and the passionate Red Army.

He went on to thank key figures in the San Beda community, including Boss MVP, Boss Jude, Coach Yuri, and other coaches, for their trust and support. Cortez also expressed gratitude to his teammates, now his brothers, for the camaraderie and the invaluable lessons learned both on and off the court.
