Former child actor Jiro Manio has made headlines by selling his prestigious Gawad Urian trophy for a whopping 75,000 pesos. The buyer? None other than content creator and businessman Jayson Luzadas, more widely known as Boss Toyo of Pinoy Pawnstars fame.
Jiro Manio etched his name in the history of the Philippine movie industry at the tender age of twelve when he became the youngest recipient of the Best Actor award at the 27th Gawad Urian in 2004. His outstanding and emotionally charged performance in the film "Magnifico," released in theaters on January 29, 2003, earned him the accolade.
Initially, Jiro valued his trophy at a princely sum of 500,000 pesos. However, Boss Toyo had other ideas. "I had no idea, Boss," admitted Jiro. Boss Toyo explained that if he were to invest 500,000 pesos in the trophy, would there be potential buyers willing to pay more.
In the end, Boss Toyo bargained for the trophy at 50,000 pesos, with Jiro countering at 100,000 pesos. The negotiation settled at 75,000 pesos, as the trophy reportedly lacked Jiro's name on it initially. However, the fact that Jiro personally signed it contributed to its final price.
This unusual transaction has raised eyebrows, leaving many to ponder the reasons behind Jiro Manio parting ways with a significant symbol of his early success in the film industry.
