Joint Operation Nabs Abu Sayyaf Group Member In Basilan

In a successful joint operation, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Basilan, together with various Philippine National Police (PNP) units, apprehended a member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Barangay Malo-ong, San Jose, Lamitan City, Basilan.
CIDG Director PMGen. Romeo Caramat identified the captured ASG member as Gerry Mapula, also known by the aliases Abing and Kudri Pegging. According to Caramat, Abing was arrested based on a search warrant issued by the court for violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Law and RA 9516, which pertains to the Illegal Possession of Explosives.
The suspect was found in possession of the following items: • One (1) unit of cal. 45 pistol Colt 1911 • One (1) piece magazine for cal. 45 pistol • Six (6) pieces live ammo for cal. 45 pistol • One (1) hand grenade (MK2) •One (1) Steven’s Tactical Sling bag (color black)
Abing, also known as Kudri Pegging, was listed as number 90 in the most wanted persons, as per the authorities' watchlist. He is linked to several kidnapping incidents in Zamboanga.
