Ka Leody De Guzman criticized Mayor Baste Duterte's recent challenge for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to resign, asserting that it stems not from a love of country but a thirst for power.
Mayor Duterte's audacity, according to De Guzman, has been fueled by a survey indicating a lead for his sibling in the 2028 presidential elections, boosting his confidence. De Guzman warned against the boastful nature of the Davao scion, drawing parallels to the political downfall of VP Binay from 2010 to 2016.
Baste Duterte accused BBM of laziness and prioritizing personal interests over addressing issues like the drug problem and the armed rebellion of the CPP-NPA-NDF. However, De Guzman argued that human rights violations persist, with more casualties in BBM's first year compared to the final year of his father's presidency.
De Guzman contends that Baste is manipulating public perception of BBM's weakness to further their agenda. He emphasized the similarities between Marcos Jr. and Baste Duterte, both representing the new generation of political dynasties accustomed to being "above the law."
Highlighting their shamelessness in prioritizing family interests for the 2025 and 2028 elections, De Guzman dismissed Baste's call for BBM's resignation as "self-serving." He pointed out that it would trigger "constitutional succession," potentially leading to Baste's sister, Sara, automatically becoming president.
