In the recent 2022 audit report by the Commission on Audit (COA), the National Youth Commission (NYC) has come under scrutiny for its spending, as it reportedly used Php 31.4 million for "training expenses" and Php 5.43 million for "travel expenses." The NYC has failed to provide evidence to support its excuses for overspending, raising concerns about their financial management.
Furthermore, this is not the first time the NYC has been implicated in anomalies. In 2021, funds meant for the training of SK officials were reportedly diverted to support the NTF-ELCAC's activities, as mentioned by Rep. Raoul Manuel.
NYC Chair Ronald Cardema's support for the Mandatory ROTC and his involvement in red-tagging and disrespecting the youth have also drawn criticism. Rep. Manuel emphasized that true youth leaders should not emulate Cardema's behavior, highlighting the need for responsible leadership within the NYC and SK.
The Kabataan Partylist has called for accountability and transparency in the utilization of public funds by the NYC to ensure that the youth's interests and development are prioritized.
