The Port of Clark, together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), has arrested a claimant of a shipment containing P3,737,600.00 million worth of high-grade marijuana or "kush" in Subic Bay Freeport Zone. The shipment, which was said to contain window curtains and cotton, arrived from Quebec, Canada and was subjected to K9 sniffing and x-ray scanning procedures.

After receiving information from PDEA, the shipment was physically examined, leading to the discovery of five packs of dried leaves and stems weighing 2,336 grams suspected to be marijuana. Representative samples were then taken and turned over to PDEA for chemical laboratory analysis, which confirmed the presence of Tetrahydrocannabinol/Marijuana, a dangerous drug under the Republic Act (R.A.) No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

On February 20, 2023, a joint operation by the Port of Clark, Port of Subic, and PDEA was conducted, leading to the arrest of one claimant in Subic Bay Freeport Zone, Zambales.
The Bureau of Customs (BOC) will file a criminal case against the apprehended claimant for violation of R.A. 9165. Commissioner Rubio emphasized that the BOC remains committed to protecting the country's borders against the entry of illegal drugs and will continue to enhance its anti-smuggling capabilities.

Collector John Simon of the Port of Clark also stated that the port will implement stricter measures to prevent the entry of contraband into the country and will continue to reinforce the bureau's border protection capabilities.
