In the aftermath of a fierce fire outbreak in Sitio Sta. Maria, Barangay Pusok, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, in conjunction with the regional Department of Social Welfare and Development, conducted a comprehensive profiling and validation, revealing that 4,417 individuals have been affected as of this morning.
A total of 372 families in Sitio Sta. Maria have lost their homes entirely, with an additional four families experiencing partial damage. Among the sharers, 28 households faced complete destruction, leaving 692 renters with homes entirely razed.
Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan of Lapu-Lapu City visited the evacuation area this morning, outlining the city government's plans and actions to aid the fire victims. Chan expressed the intention to implement reblocking in Sitio Sta. Maria to contain the fire's spread and facilitate emergency responders' access to the scene.
To ensure swift assistance, Chan recommended the declaration of a state of calamity to the city council, aligning with the barangay council's declaration made the previous night.
Assuring displaced families, Chan pledged the City Government's every effort to help them return to normalcy. Both the Talisay City Government and the Municipality of Daanbantayan will extend their assistance to the fire victims in Sta. Maria this week.
Commending the tireless efforts of barangay officials and Sangguniang Kabataan members, Mayor Chan acknowledged their continuous assistance during this challenging time.
Simultaneously, the City Health Office provided aid by offering free tetanus vaccinations to 16 individuals out of the listed 40 and free flu vaccinations to those in need. Additionally, they provided free consultations and other medical services.
The Lapu-Lapu City Police Office ensured the security of displaced families in the evacuation area identified by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.
