Manila, May 22, 2023 - Lawyer Jart Tugade, the Chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO), has announced his resignation from his position. The decision was made to allow Secretary Jimmy Bautista, the head of the Department of Transportation (DOTR), the freedom to select a candidate with whom he can work more effectively. While both Tugade and Bautista share the common goal of serving the public, their approaches and strategies differ.

In a press statement released today, Attorney Jart Tugade explained his rationale for stepping down from his role as LTO Chief. "Even as DOTR and LTO both aim to succeed in serving the public, our methods to achieve that success differ," he stated. "For this reason, I am stepping down, so Sec. Jimmy Bautista will have the free hand to choose who he can work best with."
Despite his decision to leave the public sector, Tugade expressed his unwavering support for the LTO's continued success. He emphasized his commitment to the mission of the office and his shared belief with Secretary Bautista that the LTO can be a powerful force for positive change in the country.

"I will continue to root for the LTO's success even as a private citizen because I will always share in Sec. Bautista's belief that our offices can be a formidable force for good in our country," Tugade affirmed.

Tugade's resignation comes at a critical time when the LTO has been actively implementing various initiatives aimed at improving road safety, streamlining processes, and enhancing the overall efficiency of the agency. During his tenure, Tugade spearheaded efforts to digitize LTO services, reduce red tape, and enhance transparency in operations.

As the search for a new LTO Chief begins, all eyes will be on the Department of Transportation to see how the agency will navigate this transition and continue its pursuit of improving the country's transportation sector.
