LTO Aims to Expand Online Vehicle Registration Renewal to Combat Fixer Modus Operandi. The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has set its sights on extending the implementation of online vehicle registration renewal to public utility vehicles (PUVs) with the goal of eradicating corruption, particularly the modus operandi of fixers. This initiative follows the successful launch of online renewal registration for private vehicles in February.
LTO Chief Jayart Tugade announced that the agency is actively coordinating with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) regarding the online renewal registration of PUVs through the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal.
"We have had initial meetings with the LTFRB to establish interconnectivity and enable access to the certificate of public convenience (CPC), so that PUV owners can also renew their registrations online," said Tugade.
The LTO Chief emphasized that the online renewal of PUV registrations would not only streamline the processing for operators but also help eliminate the reliance on fixers' services and remove non-roadworthy vehicles from the streets.
"The LTO and LTFRB must assure that the PUVs plying our roads are roadworthy units. We want to ease the burden of PUV operators when it comes to the renewal of the registration of their units," Tugade added.
The expansion of the online renewal system to PUVs is expected to enhance efficiency and convenience, minimizing the need for operators to physically visit LTO offices or rely on intermediaries. By embracing digital platforms, the LTO aims to eliminate corrupt practices and ensure that public transportation vehicles meet safety standards.
The move aligns with the government's commitment to improving the country's transportation sector and promoting transparency in public services. Through the integration of LTMS and the collaboration between LTO and LTFRB, the renewal process is set to become more accessible, secure, and efficient for PUV operators.
As the LTO continues to pursue its goal of expanding online renewal services, it envisions a future where the convenience of technology and the eradication of corruption go hand in hand, providing a safer and more reliable transportation experience for the commuting public.
