In response to a road rage incident that occurred in Valenzuela City on August 19, 2023, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) targeting the registered owner of a sports utility vehicle (SUV) allegedly involved in the incident.
The owner, a resident of Bulacan, is now under scrutiny to determine who was driving the vehicle during the altercation. LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II emphasized the need to identify the driver and ascertain whether the vehicle had been sold or borrowed. Pending the investigation, the SUV's registration with license plate NBB 3135 has been preventively suspended for 90 days. The LTO vows to collaborate with relevant agencies to locate the individual seen in the video.
In a separate road rage incident in Quezon City on August 8, 2023, LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II has approved the revocation of the driver's license belonging to 63-year-old Wilfredo Gonzales, a former policeman, who was captured in a video engaging in an altercation with a bicycle rider. Gonzales was found liable for four traffic violations, including improper operation of a motor vehicle, resulting in the two-year revocation of his non-professional driver's license.
The LTO resolution, signed by LTO-National Capital Region director Roque Verzosa III, declares Gonzales as an "Improper Person to Operate Motor Vehicles" and prohibits him from securing a driver's license for two years. The LTO emphasized that driving is a privilege that comes with significant responsibilities, and Gonzales's actions demonstrated a failure to uphold those responsibilities.
