Magnitude 5.1 Earthquake Strikes Agusan Del Norte, Philippines

SANTIAGO, AGUSAN DEL NORTE - On April 14, 2023, at 12:04:26 AM local time, a magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Santiago, Agusan Del Norte in the Philippines. The earthquake originated from a tectonic source with a depth of focus of 13 kilometers, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
The earthquake was felt with an intensity of IV in Santiago, Jabonga, and City of Cabadbaran in Agusan Del Norte, indicating moderate shaking. Intensity III was reported in Talacogon, Agusan Del Sur, while Intensity II was felt in Lanuza, Surigao Del Sur, and Intensity I in Guinsiliban, Camiguin.
Instrumental intensities recorded an intensity of IV in the City of Cabadbaran, Agusan Del Norte, and Intensity III in the City of Surigao, Surigao Del Norte. Meanwhile, Talakag in Bukidnon, Abuyog, and Mahaplag in Leyte recorded an intensity of I.
PHIVOLCS also issued a bulletin stating that damage is expected as a result of the earthquake. Aftershocks are also anticipated.
