An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.9 struck the southern part of the Philippines on 07 March 2023 at 04:47 PM local time. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the epicenter of the earthquake was located at 07.25°N, 126.11°E, about 33 kilometers southwest of New Bataan in the province of Davao De Oro. The earthquake had a depth of 11 kilometers.
Phivolcs has reported different intensities across the affected areas. The highest intensity was felt in Nabunturan, Davao de Oro, with an instrumental intensity of V. The town of Monkayo and the city of Tagum in Davao del Norte felt an intensity of IV. Meanwhile, the city of Davao and Malungon in Sarangani experienced an intensity of III, and Don Marcelino in Davao Occidental recorded intensity II.
The earthquake was also felt with an intensity of I in several areas such as Kadingilan, Malaybalay, and Talakag in Bukidnon, as well as Magpet and Kidapawan City in Cotabato. Other areas that felt the intensity of I include Cagayan de Oro in Misamis Oriental, Alabel in Sarangani, and Bislig City in Surigao del Sur.
