Meralco Bolts secured a hard-fought 86-84 victory against the Magnolia Hotshots, ending their four-game winning streak in the PBA Governors' Cup. The Bolts, on the other hand, extended their winning streak to two and improved their overall record to 5-3, taking sole possession of sixth place in the standings.
The game was intense until the very end, with the Bolts holding the Hotshots scoreless in the last 1:25 of play. Chris Newsome and KJ McDaniels scored crucial free throws to seal the win for Meralco. McDaniels was the top scorer for the Bolts with 19 points and 15 rebounds, while Newsome finished with 16 markers, three rebounds, and two assists.
Meralco's starting five, including McDaniels and Newsome, all put up solid numbers. Cliff Hodge had 12 rebounds and eight points, Aaron Black contributed 13 points, six rebounds, and four assists, and Bong Quinto scored 12 markers, including two triples.
