Quezon City Rep. Arjo Atayde and actress-TV host Maine Mendoza firmly denied an INQUIRER.net article claiming that their trip to Switzerland, Italy, and Greece had an "official" nature, insisting that it is a personal expense.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the newlyweds expressed their dissatisfaction, with Mendoza deeming the story "misleading and false."
Mendoza clarified, "Arjo will go to Locarno as his film is part of the Locarno film fest. Our personal trip after that is at personal expense… out of our own pockets."
Atayde shared his disappointment with the article.
Although the couple eventually deleted their initial posts, INQUIRER.net stands by its story, stating that it is supported by documents and sourced from highly-placed individuals.
In response, Maine emphasized that the article lacks context, as the trip does not involve government expenses. She reiterated that everything is at personal expense, with no use of government funds.
The situation remains contentious as both parties maintain their positions.
