Malaysian PM to Visit PH March 1 to 2

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia has announced that the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Yang Amat Berhormat (YAB) Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will undertake an official visit to the Republic of the Philippines from 1 to 2 March 2023. This visit marks the Prime Minister's first visit to the Philippines after being sworn in as the 10th Prime Minister of Malaysia.

Accompanying YAB Prime Minister Ibrahim will be YABhg. Dato' Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Dr. Wan Ismail, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, YB Dato' Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, the Minister of Home Affairs, YB Senator Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development, YB Datuk Ewon Benedick, and officials from the relevant Ministries and Agencies.

The visit will include a meeting between Prime Minister Ibrahim and the President of the Republic of the Philippines, His Excellency Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., where both leaders are expected to discuss various bilateral matters such as security cooperation, halal industry collaboration, and digital economy cooperation. Both sides will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.

In addition, YAB Prime Minister will deliver a public lecture titled "30 Years After Asian Renaissance: Strategic Takeaways for ASEAN" at the University of Philippines and hold an engagement session with the Malaysian community in the Philippines.

The visit highlights the importance of good ties between Malaysia and the Philippines as close neighbors and partners in ASEAN. It will provide an excellent opportunity for both sides to advance the partnership for progress, guided by shared interest, increased political and economic cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

In 2022, the Philippines was Malaysia's 15th largest trading partner globally and the 5th largest among ASEAN Member States, with total trade amounting to RM41.45 billion (USD9.42 billion), an increase of 20.1 percent compared to the recorded value in 2021.
