President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has instructed the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) to facilitate the adaptation of the e-Gov system within local government units (LGUs) as part of the government’s digitalization initiative.

Marcos issued the directive on Tuesday during a sectoral meeting at Malacañang, where DICT Secretary Ivan Uy presented updates on pending projects and cybersecurity concerns.

During the meeting, Marcos emphasized the importance of empowering LGUs to embrace the e-Gov system, stating, "Let's capacitate our LGUs so they can adapt to the system."

Uy further explained the benefits of the system, highlighting that it would result in cost savings for local governments and significantly enhance income generation. By implementing the e-Gov system, administrative tasks will be streamlined, enabling greater efficiency in revenue collection.

Marcos also stressed the need for regular upgrades to ensure the effectiveness of the digitalization efforts.

"That's really the essence of digitalization. Let's be sure that we are able to upgrade this system. Set it up to get them (LGUs) ready, so they know how to operate it," he emphasized.

In December of last year, the DICT unveiled the e-Gov system, which includes the e-Gov Super App, a platform aimed to ensure the digitalization of government systems in the country, including those at the local level.

The e-Gov Super App is scheduled to be launched early next month.

In addition to the e-Government Priority Projects, the DICT has identified other critical initiatives, including centralizing government cloud services, establishing an e-Report system for citizen feedback and complaints, and developing the e-Gov App, which aims to unify all government services under one digital platform.

According to the global Network Readiness Index, the Philippines climbed to 71st out of 131 economies in 2022, a significant improvement from its 85th ranking in 2021. This advancement can be attributed to favorable performance in areas such as e-commerce legislation, high-tech exports, and information and communication technology (ICT) services exports.
