Lisa Marie Presley, the singer-songwriter and only child of Elvis Presley, passed away in January due to complications arising from a "small bowel obstruction", the County of Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner revealed.
According to an article posted on the department's website, Presley's passing was attributed to a small bowel obstruction, which was caused by scar tissue that developed from a previous bariatric surgery she had undergone several years ago.
The article also noted that the manner of death was determined to be natural.
On January 12, Presley was discovered unresponsive at her residence by her ex-husband who called the 911 emergency hotline.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and Presley was rushed to the nearest hospital.
Despite their efforts, Presley was pronounced dead at 1708 hours. She was 54 years old.
The deputy medical examiner conducted a thorough examination of Presley's body at the Department's Forensic Science Center on January 14.
Following the completion of the examination and the receipt of relevant test results, the cause of death was officially certified in July.
