Metro Manila Subway Hits 40% Implementation Milestone On Track For 2029 Completion

The Metro Manila Subway Project (MMSP), the Philippines' pioneering underground mass transport initiative, has reached a commendable 40% completion rate as of January 2024, according to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista.
The announcement was made during a thorough site inspection on February 26, 2024, attended by Department of Finance (DOF) Secretary Ralph Recto and Takema Sakamoto, Chief Representative of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in the Philippines.
Bautista expressed confidence in the project's timely execution, stating, "With the support of JICA, we are implementing this project on time for completion in 2029." He extended appreciation to DOF and JICA for their unwavering support, emphasizing the project's broader goals of seamless, comfortable, accessible, safe, sustainable, and affordable travel.
In response, Recto affirmed the DOF's commitment, stating, "The Department of Finance is fully committed to securing the funding for this project. We aim to finalize the loan agreement for the 3rd tranche of financing by March 2024," highlighting a dedicated effort toward the continued success of the Metro Manila Subway.
