The Miss Universe Organization has officially severed ties with its long-standing franchisee in Indonesia, PT Capella Swastika Karya, along with its National Director, Poppy Capella. This decision comes in response to disturbing revelations that have emerged from the Miss Universe Indonesia pageant, indicating a clear breach of the organization's brand standards, ethics, and expectations.
The Miss Universe Organization expressed its deep disappointment in the failure of the Indonesian franchise to uphold these principles. The events that transpired during the recent pageant were found to be in direct contradiction to the core values that the organization holds dear.
"Our utmost priority has always been to create a safe and supportive environment for women to showcase their talents and ambitions. Regrettably, the circumstances surrounding the Miss Universe Indonesia pageant have shown a significant departure from our mission," the Miss Universe Organization's spokesperson said.
Consequently, PT Capella Swastika Karya and its key figures will not be involved in the forthcoming Miss Universe Malaysia 2023, and any further contractual engagements with the organization have been terminated. The scheduled Miss Universe Malaysia 2023 competition has been canceled, and arrangements are being made for the reigning Indonesia 2023 titleholder to compete in the upcoming Miss Universe pageant.
In light of these developments, the Miss Universe Organization is conducting a comprehensive evaluation of its existing franchise agreements and internal policies. This introspective approach aims to prevent the recurrence of such egregious incidents and ensure that all future international events adhere unwaveringly to the organization's established brand standards.
The Miss Universe Organization also seized the opportunity to dispel any misconceptions about its selection criteria, emphatically clarifying that there are no arbitrary measurements, such as height, weight, or body dimensions, imposed on participants. This reaffirmation underscores the organization's dedication to fostering inclusivity and diversity among its contestants.
Addressing those who courageously came forward to share their experiences, the Miss Universe Organization expressed profound regret for the distress they endured. "To the women who raised their voices, we extend our sincerest apologies for the distress you encountered within our organization. Your bravery in speaking out is commendable, and we pledge to learn from this and strive for a better future."
As the Miss Universe Organization embarks on a path of reform and recommitment to its core values, the world watches closely, anticipating a revitalized and more responsible approach to the promotion of beauty, empowerment, and equality on a global stage.
