MMDA Engages Motorcycle And Bicycle Groups For Edsa Road Sharing Possibility

In a significant move towards promoting road safety and shared spaces, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) convened a meeting with motorcycle and bicycle advocacy groups last August 29,2023 to discuss the potential implementation of road sharing within the EDSA bike lane.

Led by MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes, the stakeholders' meeting provided a platform for participants to voice their opinions and suggestions regarding this critical matter. Chairman Artes emphasized the importance of considering the presented ideas and recommendations.
Assuring the utmost priority to safety for both bicycle and motorcycle riders, Chairman Artes affirmed that the suggestions and recommendations put forth during the meeting will be thoroughly examined by the MMDA. The goal is to strike a balance that benefits all road users without compromising anyone's safety.

Prominent figures and organizations within the cycling and motorcycling community attended the gathering, including renowned cycling advocate Atty. Raymond Fortun, Move as One Coalition, Motorcycle Rights Organization, Motorcycle Philippines Federation, Angkas, Bikers For A Cause, Alternative Mobility (AltMobility PH), and many others.

The consultation also saw the participation of representatives from key government agencies such as the Department of Transportation, Department of Public Works and Highways, Land Transportation Office, and the Inter-Agency Council for Traffic. This collaborative effort signifies a step forward in fostering a more inclusive and secure road environment for all commuters.
