MMDA Suspends Road Works And Mall Sales Promos Ahead Of FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023

In light of the upcoming FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has announced a temporary suspension of road works within Metro Manila. Pursuant to MMDA Memorandum Circular No. 7, s. 2023, the suspension will be in effect from midnight on August 17 (Thursday) to midnight on September 10 (Sunday).

The following locations will be affected by the temporary suspension of road works:
1. EDSA Monumento to SM MOA
2. Kalayaan Avenue, C5 Road to EDSA
3. Diokno Boulevard
4. P. Ocampo St., Taft Avenue to Roxas Boulevard
5. Roxas Boulevard, NIA Road to UN Avenue
6. Meralco Avenue
7. Ortigas Avenue, EDSA to C5 Road
8. EDSA North Avenue to Agham Road

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of pedestrians and motorists, the MMDA has also prohibited mall-wide sales in malls along EDSA and other areas affected by the FIBA World Cup 2023 during the specified period.

The memorandum circular, signed by MMDA Acting Chairman Atty. Don Artes, has been disseminated to concerned offices, Department of Public Works and Highways-NCR Engineering Districts, local government units, utility companies, contractors, and shopping mall operators. This move aims to guarantee the accessibility, cleanliness, safety, and functionality of the roads for all types of vehicles and pedestrians throughout the event.
