The much-anticipated 49th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) has begun with an overwhelming response from local filmmakers. A total of 26 entries from 32 production companies have been submitted for consideration, making it a record high for script submissions in the festival's history.

The Selection Committee, led by esteemed producer and industry stalwart Jesse Ejercito, will have the challenging task of choosing the top four scripts from this impressive pool. The committee will evaluate the submissions based on four criteria: Artistic Excellence (40%), Commercial Appeal (40%), Filipino Cultural Sensibility (10%), and Global Appeal (10%).
Expressing his gratitude to the filmmakers, Atty. Don Artes, Acting Chairman of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and concurrent MMFF Acting Chairman, commended their support and participation in the festival.

"Thank you to our filmmakers who submitted their script entries and for supporting the 49th MMFF. I am sure our selection committee will have a hard time choosing among the scripts. But I am also confident that the best among the best will be chosen," said Chair Artes.

The next crucial milestone in the festival's journey is the deadline for finished film submissions, where the final four official MMFF entries will be selected. Filmmakers have until September 29 to complete their films and submit them for consideration.

Chair Artes took the opportunity to urge the public to support the MMFF, emphasizing its importance as a cherished part of Filipino Christmas traditions.

"Let us all watch and support local films and enjoy them with our families and friends this holiday season," said Artes. "May we continue to support Filipino films back where they must be enjoyed, in the theaters/movie houses."

The MMFF has long been a platform for showcasing the creativity and talent of Filipino filmmakers. Through their support, the festival thrives, providing entertainment and promoting local cinema to audiences across the nation.
