The Philippines' representatives at the 32nd Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia have added more gold medals to their total count, bringing it up to seven as of this writing.
The Mixed Relay Team, made up of Erika Nicole Burgos, Iñaki Emil Lorbes, Kira Ellis, and Matthew Justine Hermosa, secured the seventh gold medal for the Philippines in the Aquathlon competition on Saturday, May 6.
They crossed the finish line in 1 hour, 9 minutes, and 56 seconds, finishing ahead of Indonesia (1:11:27) and Vietnam (1:13:29).
Meanwhile, Annie Ramirez won the sixth gold medal for the country in the women's 57 kilogram Ne-waza Nogi event by defeating competitors from Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam.
Ramirez's latest win marked her third consecutive SEA Games gold medal, following her triumphs in the 2019 and 2021 editions.
In the karate competition, Sakura Alforte brought home the fifth gold medal for the Philippines by winning the women's individual kata.
She outperformed the defending champion from Vietnam, Nguyen Thi Phuong, in the final match.
Alforte's victory was a redemption for the Philippine Karate team after failing to win any gold medal in the 31st SEA Games in Vietnam.
Precious Cabuya and Mark Julius Rodelas also bagged gold medals in the men's and women's individual obstacle course 100-meter race, respectively, at the SEA Games. These victories marked the third and fourth gold medals won by the country in the biennial multi-sports competition.
Ahead of the official opening of the Games, Kaila Napolis won a gold medal in jiu-jitsu, while Angel Derla triumphed in kun bokator, bringing the first two gold medals for the country on Thursday, May 4.
