ABS-CBN Foundation, Inc. (AFI) officially announced the conclusion of its stewardship over the La Mesa Nature Reserve and La Mesa Ecopark. The management responsibilities will be handed over to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on 15 February 2024.

The decision is in alignment with the Integrated Watershed Management Roadmap for Angat, Ipo, and La Mesa (IWMRAIL) led by MWSS. This strategic roadmap aims to ensure the sustainable protection and preservation of the three vital watersheds.

As part of the transition process, both the La Mesa Nature Reserve and the La Mesa Ecopark will temporarily close to the public starting 12 February 2024. The temporary closure is deemed necessary to facilitate a smooth transfer of responsibilities and ensure the continued success of conservation efforts in the area.

Recognizing the potential challenges faced by employees due to the temporary closure, AFI has assured that all affected staff will receive severance packages to provide support during this period.

AFI expressed heartfelt gratitude to its employees, partners, donors, and supporters who have played a crucial role in the restoration and sustenance of the La Mesa Watershed for almost 25 years.

"The La Mesa Nature Reserve will be turned over to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System - Corporate Office, or MWSS-CO, and its concessionaires. In addition, the La Mesa Ecopark, an ecotourism, recreational, and educational facility for the public, shall be turned over to MWSS-co, in cooperation with the local government of Quezon City," explained MWSS Administrator, Leonor C. Cleofas, CESO IV.
