NDRRMC Mobilized In The Aftermath Of Sarangani Quake

In the wake of a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.8 that jolted Sarangani in Davao Occidental, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has swiftly mobilized its resources to address the aftermath and ensure the safety of affected residents.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Operations Center (NDRRMOC) has issued Memorandum No. 148, s. 2023, raising the alert status to Blue in response to the earthquake, which has been felt across the provinces of Davao Occidental, Davao del Sur, Sarangani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Cotabato.

Key actions taken by NDRRMC include the dissemination of Emergency Alert and Warning Messages (EAWM) to the affected provinces and the issuance of a memo for the activation and standby status of response clusters.

As of the latest SitRep No. 2, casualty figures are currently under validation, with no reported missing individuals. Fifteen injuries have been reported and are awaiting validation.

The earthquake has affected 2,489 families and 12,885 individuals, prompting the activation of response clusters for immediate assistance. While no evacuation centers have been established yet, the NDRRMC is closely monitoring the situation.

There have been no major interruptions in communication and power has been successfully restored. Water supply remains stable, with no significant interruptions reported. However, three roads are currently impassable, and clearance work is underway for affected bridges.

A total of 862 houses have been damaged, along with 118 infrastructure facilities. Fortunately, no damage has been reported in the agriculture sector.

The NDRRMC has taken measures to provide assistance, with a total of P11,612,558 worth of aid distributed to those affected. Additionally, standby search and rescue teams are continuously assessing and monitoring the situation.

The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Regional Offices, in coordination with Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (LDRRMOs), is conducting assessments and coordinating efforts. Virtual Emergency Operations Centers have been activated at both national and regional levels, ensuring effective communication and response coordination.

The NDRRMC has provided P1,339,780.00 worth of food and non-food items. Emergency Alert and Warning Messages are being broadcasted through National and Regional Virtual Emergency Operations Centers to keep the public informed and aware.
