In a night filled with glitz and glamor, Nicole Borromeo, a 22-year-old Cebuana, stood out as she clinched the title of 3rd runner-up in the highly anticipated Miss International pageant.
Borromeo's remarkable journey to the crown was marked by her eloquence and dedication to sustainable development goals (SDGs).
During the final round of the competition, Borromeo faced a challenging question regarding SDGs, which are set to be achieved by 2030. Her response not only resonated with the judges but also captured the hearts of the audience.
Borromeo eloquently stated, "As a 22-year-old Cebuana, someone who has experienced the wrath of natural disasters, home is everything. I’ve worked tirelessly with Habitat for Humanity under the SDG goal number 11, sustainable cities and communities. It is through this volunteer work that I could see in the faces of the children how much they wanted to help, how much they wanted to be a part of the future. Because when it comes to sustainability, we must keep in mind that it's not only for the next generation but to include them in the process."
Her commitment to SDGs, particularly Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, resonated with the pageant's theme of empowering women to make a positive impact in their communities and the world at large.
