In a military operation conducted by the 4th Infantry Division (4ID), nine Communist Party of the Philippines - New People's Army (CPP-NPA) terrorists were eliminated, and eight firearms were seized in the hinterlands of Brgy. Can-ayan, Brgy. Kibalabag, Brgy. Kulaman, and Brgy. Mapulo on Christmas Day, December 25, 2023.

Acting on intelligence provided by residents regarding the presence of CPP-NPA terrorists in their communities, the 403rd Brigade, led by Brigadier General Michele B. Anayron Jr, initiated a joint operation with operationally controlled units: the 8th Infantry Battalion, the 1st Special Forces Battalion, and the 88th Infantry Battalion.

With the majority of the rebels believed to be members of the combined group under the leadership of the so-called Sub-Regional Committee-2 (SRC2), Headquarters Loader, and Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG) Compaq, the assault ground forces requested Close Air Support (CAS) from the Tactical Operations Group 10 (TOG10) of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) and artillery fire support from the 4th and 10th Field Artillery Battalion.

Anayron Jr emphasized, "We utilized close air support and artillery howitzers mainly to preserve our forces and prevent or minimize casualties. We ensured the safety of the communities, avoiding damage or destruction during the operations."

The joint operations resulted in the death of nine CPP-NPA terrorists, comprising three females and six males, who are yet to be identified. Additionally, four M16 Rifles, one M16 attached with an M203 Grenade Launcher, one 12-Gauge Shotgun, one Caliber .45 Pistol, and one Hand Grenade were seized during the initial sweep. More recoveries are expected as the remaining terrorists scattered in different directions to evade capture.

Major General Jose Maria R. Cuerpo II, 4ID Commander, declared that military operations will persist relentlessly until the remaining Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) becomes inconsequential, and their capabilities are diminished to the lowest level. Despite the CPP's declaration of a 2-day Unilateral Ceasefire, 4ID remains focused on complying with the directive of the Armed Forces of the Philippines to ensure community safety and end the communist armed conflict.

Maj. Gen. Cuerpo II affirmed, "This victory is a significant step in our mission to finally put an end to this decades-long insurgency problem in Northern Mindanao and Caraga region. We will not rest; we will continue to hunt the CPP-NPA terrorists anywhere, anytime. Their only option now is to lay down their firearms."
