Wayne Selden Jr. and Kevin Alas lifted NLEX Road Warriors to a much-needed victory over Converge FiberXers, keeping their hopes alive in the PBA Governors Cup eliminations. The Road Warriors shared third place honors thanks to Selden's impressive 35 points and Alas' personal season-high of 31 points, including point burst in the fourth quarter. Kris Rosales, Anthony Semerad, and Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser provided the needed boost for the team to clinch the win.
Despite the absence of injured players Sean Anthony, Matt Nieto, and Mike Miranda, the Road Warriors managed to catch up with the FiberXers, both teams now tied at third place with a 5-2 record. NLEX played with a short rotation, and even with original import Jonathan Simmons' departure, they managed to grind out a victory.
Converge started strong, building an early 12-point lead. Jamaal Franklin was on fire, scoring a whopping 53 points and hitting nine three-pointers. Mav Ahanmisi added 22 points to the FiberXers' total, making four of his six three-point attempts. Despite this, the FiberXers suffered from the early ouster of key players due to fouls and eventually succumbed to their second loss in the last three games.
NLEX was patient, waiting for the right time to counter. They finally seized the lead at 113-109 on a 13-2 run by Semerad and Alas, capped by an Alas triple with 38 seconds left. Franklin managed to hit his last three-pointer, but Alas and Selden combined for three free throws to seal the deal for the Road Warriors.
The Road Warriors' next game will be against Meralco Bolts on February 23, while the FiberXers will face the Blackwater Bossing. Fans of both teams can look forward to more exciting games in the PBA Governors Cup eliminations.
