No Major Damage Reported In Calatagan Following Magnitude 6.3 Earthquake

Calatagan, Batangas - On Thursday morning, June 15, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake rocked the town of Calatagan, but fortunately, no significant damage or injuries to residents have been reported, according to Mayor Peter Oliver Palacio.
Mayor Palacio assured the public that immediate damage assessment measures were undertaken to ensure the safety of residents, considering the possibility of subsequent aftershocks.
In light of this event, classes were suspended this afternoon in Calatagan and various parts of Calabarzon to prioritize the safety of students in schools. The suspension of classes was declared in the province of Laguna, Bacoor City, and Naic, Cavite, affecting all levels of public and private schools.
During the meeting of the Calabarzon Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), Erlinton Olavere from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) mentioned that several aftershocks with magnitudes ranging from 1 to 3 are expected to occur over the next three days to a week.
Olavere emphasized that there is no tsunami threat to the country.
At present, the Calabarzon RDRRMC and Calatagan Municipal DRRM Office continue to assess the damages caused by the magnitude 6.3 earthquake in Calatagan, Batangas. They are actively providing warnings to residents and coordinating with the local government of Calatagan to implement necessary measures.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake, which struck at 10:19 AM, had a depth of 103 kilometers. Tremors were also felt in certain parts of Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, and Metro Manila.
