The National Privacy Commission (NPC) received a bomb threat through its official Facebook page on May 12, 2023. In response to the threat, the NPC activated its emergency response procedures and coordinated with the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) security office, where their office is located. The relevant authorities have also been notified and will be working closely with the NPC to determine the credibility and origin of the threat.

Privacy Commissioner John Henry D. Naga assured the public that the NPC is taking the bomb threat seriously and has implemented all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of their premises and personnel. Naga emphasized that the NPC plays a critical role in safeguarding the privacy rights of individuals and protecting their personal data. He further stated that the NPC remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting the privacy rights of every Filipino citizen, and their work is vital in fostering trust in the digital landscape.

The NPC has been vocal about the importance of data privacy in the Philippines, particularly in light of the increasing number of data breaches and cyber attacks. The agency has been working tirelessly to enforce the Data Privacy Act of 2012, which aims to protect the privacy of personal information in both the government and private sectors.
