The oil spill that occurred on February 28, 2023, in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro, continues to spread, affecting all shorelines and endangering marine resources. Pola town Mayor Jennifer M. Cruz, through Pabatid Publiko, shared an update on the oil spill, indicating that fish sanctuaries, as well as Casiligan and Pula River, are now affected. The spill may also impact the Palaisdaan, and it may take some time to clean up the 800,000 liters of spilled oil.

The situation has affected the local economy, particularly the fishing industry and tourism. However, the community has come together to address the problem, with various government organizations and NGOs providing support. The DENR Secretary, Antonia Loyzaga, Mayor Joel Teves, and other officials from the DENR, Philippine Coast Guard, and the University of the Philippines Marine Science Institute held a press conference to discuss the extent of the impact and efforts to locate the sunken vessel.

The Philippine Coast Guard also reported that the oil spill has now reached Caluya, Antique, and cleanup operations are underway in affected areas. The spill has impacted around 600 residents, or 150 families, in Liwagao Island, according to the LGU.
