In response to recent allegations of theft involving a Security Screening Officer (SSO) at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1, the Office for Transportation Security (OTS) has swiftly taken action to investigate the matter and ensure accountability.
The incident in question pertains to the disappearance of $300 in cash, prompting the OTS to collaborate closely with the Manila International Airport Authority and the Philippine National Police Aviation Security. Their aim is to bring any individuals responsible for the alleged theft to justice and, if substantiated, take appropriate administrative actions.
OTS Administrator Undersecretary Ma. O Aplasca has urged informants to come forward with information regarding any illegal activities committed by OTS personnel. He emphasized the agency's commitment to cleansing its ranks from unscrupulous individuals who seek to undermine the integrity of civil service.
Undersecretary Aplasca also highlighted the preventive measures implemented by the OTS since the discovery of the first theft incident during the current administration. "When the first incident of theft at the security screening checkpoint was reported, we didn't hesitate to remove those who tarnished the government's image and even reported them to the public to serve as a deterrent. We also ordered the removal of jackets and pockets from their uniforms as a preventive measure to curb theft. However, it appears that there are still a few who are not following the path of integrity," he stated.
As of the time of this report, the OTS has identified the personnel involved, and the process of gathering evidence is underway. Further updates on the progress of the investigation will be provided as soon as they become available. The OTS remains committed to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism among its personnel.
