Over P52M Allocated By Cagayan Province For State of Calamity

In response to the State of Calamity declaration in Cagayan, a total of P52,546,800 from the re-enacted budget in the Province will be utilized for the "quick response fund."
The funds, sourced from the 2022 budget in Cagayan due to the pending approval of the 2023 proposed budget, will be distributed as follows: 40% for agriculture, 30% for Social Welfare, 20% for infrastructure, and the remaining 5% for the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and Provincial Veterinary Office (PVet).
During a special session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on July 31, 2023, the recommendation of Governor Manuel Mamba, who chairs the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC), was approved for the declaration of the State of Calamity based on Resolution no. 2023-11-502.
In the session, Rueli Rapsing, the Officer-In-Charge of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), presented the extent of the damages caused by the typhoon, with 22,291 families comprising 60,736 individuals affected in the entire province. The typhoon resulted in 22 injured and 1,102 totally damaged homes, with 16,058 homes partially damaged.
Rapsing also reported the initial valuation of the agricultural damages at P539,442,500, livestock at P1,050,000, and infrastructure at P862,300,000.
Representatives from various offices including Provincial Agriculturist Pearl Mabasa, Dr. Noli Buen from the Provincial Veterinary Office, Provincial Engineer King James Dela Cruz, Bonnie Cuarteros from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), and representatives from the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) Region 02 were also present and participated in the special session of the SP.
