The Office of the Vice President refuted allegations of corruption on its alleged failure to adhere to procurement regulations during the purchase of equipment for its satellite offices.
The statement clarified that the cost of the equipment was validated by the Commission On Audit (COA) and passed the audit. It also highlighted that the COA's recommendations should be sufficient to address concerns raised by the Alliance of Concerned Teachers Partylist, the group that initially brought the issue to public attention.
According to the COA's findings, the OVP purchased equipment worth P668,197.20 in an effort to expedite the establishment of its satellite offices. COA discovered possible violations of procurement rules during their audit, raising concerns about the integrity of the process.
In response to the COA's findings, The OVP's statement further emphasized that the COA did not issue any notice of suspension or disallowance against their office. It also pointed out that the OVP has consistently maintained an unqualified opinion on its financial statements, indicating a positive assessment of their financial management practices.
The Office of the Vice President also expressed disappointment towards the ACT Partylist for what they referred to as "wild speculations" regarding the OVP's spending. The statement suggested that if the partylist had thoroughly reviewed the COA papers, it could have saved them time and energy, as the audit findings were already addressed and validated.
