The Bureau of Customs' (BOC) Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) branch, in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group (NAIA-IADITG), successfully apprehended a passenger attempting to smuggle cocaine into the country. The joint operation took place at Terminal 3 of NAIA in Pasay City on May 22.

Acting on intelligence information provided by their foreign counterparts, the Arrival Operations Division of BOC NAIA, PDEA operatives, and the Customs Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Force worked together to identify and intercept the suspect. The Salvadoran national had arrived on Qatar Airways flight QR 932 from Doha, Qatar, with a layover in Brazil.
Upon arrival, the passenger's luggage underwent a comprehensive screening process that included x-ray scanning, K9 inspection, and a thorough physical examination. It was during this meticulous examination that authorities discovered 3,120 grams of cocaine concealed inside the suspect's luggage. The confiscated drugs were estimated to have a street value of Php16,536,000.00, as confirmed by the PDEA.

The apprehended individual now faces charges under Republic Act 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Drug Act, and Republic Act 10863, the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act (CMTA). These laws provide severe penalties for drug-related offenses and smuggling activities.
