The Marcos administration announced that it has prepared a stand-by fund of over P173 million to aid relief efforts and assured the safety of nearly 40,000 affected families.
President Marcos took to Twitter (@bongbongmarcos) just hours before the anticipated landfall of Super Typhoon Egay over Babuyan Islands or northeastern Cagayan province, reiterating the administration's commitment to address potential damages caused by the storm.
The allocated funds, along with essential food and non-food items, were readied to ensure immediate assistance to affected individuals. Additionally, rescue teams from the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) were deployed to support relief operations.
As of the latest update, 93.53% of affected municipalities have had their power restored, indicating ongoing efforts to address infrastructure damages.
The safety and welfare of approximately 38,991 families in various regions, including Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, and Soccsksargen, have been secured by the government.
Despite the ongoing crisis back home, President Marcos Jr. made sure to prioritize his state visit to Malaysia, aiming to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries and address concerns of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Malaysia.
The government continues to closely monitor the situation and coordinate rescue and relief efforts to mitigate the impact of Super Typhoon Egay on affected communities.
