Cesar Chavez, the Presidential Assistant for Strategic Communications, publicly acknowledged his responsibility for the false declaration of December 22 as a partial work day.
In a statement released on social media, Chavez apologized for the confusion caused by the inaccurate information.
He stated, "Apologies. I also posted content that was not first verified by me. For the confusion it has created, the blame falls on me. I take full responsibility for this oversight. As a former newsman who has been a stickler for fact-checking, this one evaded me."
The Presidential Communications Office has officially confirmed that the circulating "Proclamation No. 427," declaring December 22, 2023, as a special (half-working) day, is entirely false. The document in question is counterfeit and lacks official government verification.
