The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has announced that its Season 48 games will be broadcast on A2Z, in an strategic effort to bring the nation's premier basketball league to a broader audience through free-to-air television.
TV5 president Guido Zaballero made the partnership official during a media press conference held at the Diamond Hotel on Tuesday. "The primary reason is we believe the PBA needs a dedicated home, and we saw the possibility with ZOE," explained Zaballero.
The ZOE Broadcasting Network, owned by Bro. Eddie Villanueva in partnership with ABS-CBN, will now be the home for PBA games every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday. On weekdays, fans can catch the action at 4 PM and 8 PM, while weekend games will be televised at 3 PM and 6:15 PM.
Previously, PBA games were broadcast on TV5 and OneSport on free-to-air television. Although OneSport will still provide PBA coverage, it will shift its focus towards catch-up content. TV5, on the other hand, will undergo a transformation into a purely entertainment channel, according to Caballero.
"So meron na tayong solid entertainment and news channel, and meron na rin kaming sports channel. So it's a good balance," said Caballero.
For cable viewers, PBA games will continue to be available on PBA Rush, the dedicated channel for the entire league. Fans on the go can stream the action via the Pilipinas Live app.
