PBBM and US VP Harris Commit to Digital Inclusion and Clean Energy Economy

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and US Vice President Kamala Harris have pledged to strengthen the partnership between Manila and Washington in various areas, including digital inclusion and clean energy economy.
The two leaders met at the US Naval Observatory in Washington, DC, where President Marcos expressed his gratitude to Vice President Harris for paving the way for his meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House the previous week.
In his remarks, President Marcos emphasized the importance of the friendship between the two countries in the face of rising tensions in the region and the world. He thanked the US for being their only treaty partner in the world and reiterated his commitment to strengthening the relationship between the Philippines and the United States.
Vice President Harris, for her part, lauded President Marcos for his leadership and prioritizing mutual prosperity and security. She commended the Philippines for its efforts towards a clean energy economy, food security, and digital inclusion, which she said were important issues for both countries.
The two leaders also discussed security issues, particularly the South China Sea, and the ongoing collaboration between the Coast Guards of both countries. Vice President Harris shared her experience of visiting Palawan, where she met with residents, civil society leaders, and Philippine Coast Guard officials. She also had the opportunity to talk to fishermen in the region.
Joining President Marcos during the meeting were First Lady Louise Araneta-Marcos, Speaker Martin Romualdez, Ambassador Jose Manuel Romualdez, Mrs. Maria Lourdes Romualdez, and Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos.
