PBBM Attends 43rd ASEAN Summit In Jakarta Indonesia

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arrived in Jakarta, Indonesia on Monday, September 4, to participate in the 43rd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Summits. This significant regional gathering aims to address complex challenges and explore opportunities for ASEAN as an "epicentrum of growth."
The presidential plane carrying the Philippine Chief Executive touched down at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport at 6 pm local time. President Marcos is attending the summit at the invitation of ASEAN Summit Chair and Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
During his summit attendance, President Marcos expressed his commitment to advancing Philippine priorities within ASEAN. He emphasized the importance of collaborating with other ASEAN Member States on regional challenges and growth prospects.
President Marcos outlined key areas of focus during the summit, including promoting a rules-based international order, addressing South China Sea issues, enhancing food security, advocating for climate justice, harnessing the potential of the digital and creative economies, protecting migrant workers during crises, and combating human trafficking.
The summit agenda also features extensive discussions to deepen ASEAN's partnerships with Australia, Canada, India, China, Japan, Korea, the United States, and the United Nations. These discussions will explore cooperation in trade and investment, climate action, food security, clean energy, and maritime cooperation.
Among the prominent topics on the agenda are developments in the South China Sea, the situation in Myanmar, the conflict in Ukraine, and major power rivalries. These issues will be addressed during the ASEAN Plus Three and East Asia Summits. President Marcos reaffirmed his administration's commitment to ensuring that constructive engagements with ASEAN, Dialogue Partners, and stakeholders serve the national interest and the well-being of the Filipino people.
The 43rd ASEAN Summit and Related Summits adopt the theme "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth." ASEAN, a political and economic union, comprises Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia.
