In a recent statement, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured the public that the government is intensifying its efforts to monitor transactions in the digital space. This move aims to protect citizens from scammers and abusive online lenders while also raising awareness about the potential risks posed by artificial intelligence (AI).

During an interview following his attendance at the 85th Anniversary of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) as Company Registrar, President Marcos emphasized the government's commitment to closely monitoring digital activities.

"The SIM card registration I think was a big step, and I think we are getting to the point where we have disposed of or taken out of the system many of the SIM cards that have not been registered because they have been used for illegal purposes," President Marcos said.

Highlighting the importance of vigilance and caution in the face of emerging threats, President Marcos urged the public to familiarize themselves with new technologies introduced to prevent falling victim to scams.

"When people receive messages presenting deals that sound too good to be true, they should proceed with caution," he advised. "There is no such thing as 100 percent risk-free. There is no way to guarantee these enormous returns on the money that you give them."

President Marcos emphasized that public awareness and the ability to recognize scam tactics are crucial defenses against fraudulent schemes. By being knowledgeable and alert, individuals can protect themselves from potential harm.

Regarding the punishment of scammers involved in such schemes, President Marcos affirmed that those found guilty of promoting scams would face the full force of the law. However, he acknowledged the challenge of apprehending perpetrators who operate without identifiable offices or establishments.

"These are people sitting in somebody's basement with a computer, which they can just shut down, sell away, buy a new one, and keep going. So, that's the trouble that we are finding now," President Marcos explained.

He added that while identifying the exact origin of large-scale scams is possible in certain instances, the transient nature of these operations makes it difficult to apprehend the responsible individuals.

In conclusion, President Marcos stressed the government's commitment to safeguarding the public from online scams and highlighted the importance of public awareness and vigilance. By staying informed and cautious, individuals can better protect themselves in the rapidly evolving digital landscape.

The government's continued efforts to monitor digital transactions and combat scammers reflect its dedication to ensuring a secure online environment for all citizens.
