Philippines President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the inauguration of the Cebu Bus Rapid Transit Project - Package 1 on Monday, February 27, marking a significant step towards improving the transport system in Cebu Province after nearly 20 years. The project is part of the government's effort to modernize the country's infrastructure and support economic growth.

The Cebu Bus Rapid Transit Project is a vital component of the government's plan to address the growing traffic congestion problem in the area, which has resulted in long travel times and significant economic losses. The project aims to provide a fast, reliable, and affordable mode of transportation for the residents of Cebu and its neighboring areas.

The project covers a 13.8-kilometer segregated lane with 17 bus stations and two bus depots and terminals that can accommodate more than 160,000 passengers daily. The segregated lane ensures that the buses will not be affected by traffic congestion, allowing them to provide a faster and more efficient service to commuters.

The government has allocated approximately Php 16.3 billion for the entire implementation of the project, which is expected to bring significant benefits to the region. The Cebu Bus Rapid Transit Project is expected to reduce travel time for commuters, improve air quality, and contribute to the overall economic development of the region.

According to the Department of Transportation, partial operations of the CBRT project are expected to begin in the last quarter of 2023, while full operation will be launched in the second quarter of 2025.
